New iPad Connectivity?

edited October 2018 in Audio
I'm considering an iPad upgrade this cycle.

Rumor has it that the lightning connector will be changed to USB-C.

If that actually occurs will I still be able to use the iCA4+ with the new iPad?

Will I need something other than the proper cable?

I have one of the early iCA4+  - S/N 0051

  • The new iPad Pro does indeed use USB-C instead of Lightning, and I strongly suspect that any other new iPads will follow suit. Note that USB-C isn't an actual *data format* it's simply the shape of the connector. As such, it's capable of carrying many different kinds of data, including HDMI, Ethernet, Thunderbolt, and all the different flavors of USB. So theoretically it should just work like any other computer USB port. However we haven't tested this yet, so I can't guarantee it at this time.
  • Thanks much, it's not as if I'm going to run out and buy one today, but I'd like to know for sure if I'd need a new interface as well.

    Hello, i use the iConnectMidi2+.
I plan to buy also this New Ipad Pro 2018 but I ask myself the same questions.
  • Same to me I also hope some third parties will make some "Hub's" to extract all signals from the new iPad Pro
I have seen some able to extract Audio USB, HDMI Ethernet... sounds good
the Satechi Aluminum Type-C Mobile Pro Hub
    around 45$

  • See our announcement about this. From our preliminary tests it seems that the iPad Pro uses a standard USB-C connection so any USB-C OTG hub should work.
