More than 10 USB inputs for MIOXL

edited March 2021 in MIDI
I use a 10 positions Hub which fills the 10 usb slots for USB Host reservation.
But there are still 4 USB ports free in front of the MIOXL and I have one more keyboard to connect.
When I connect it on one of these ports, it is not available, even if seen.
Could it be possible to increase this 10 limit ?

Does this mean technically more devices can be used simultaneously and routed but only port reservation is limited to 10?
In my setup i have exactly 10 USB devices in use because i though this is the maximum.
*EDIT i forgot that routing won't be possible because the available routing options are limited as well. nevermind
  • You couldn't not reserve them and have them work. The reserved host ports get routed to a MIDI port on the connection to the computer. IF they aren't reserved you have no way of doing that.

hello, back here with this 'port reserved' limit, is it a software (firmware) limit or is there some physical constraint other than the CPU power ?
When I look at BomeBox, they have no limit on the number of USB ports ??? This with a limited  OS engine based on OpenWRT...

  • It's the most our engineers have decided to offer based on power and processing.

Well, may be they could think twice to this limitation. Why XL when it has same number of USB ports as the XM....
Thinking to migrate to a more flexible midi routing and filtering device, as new concurrents are entering on the market.
  • The XL has 10 Host ports and the XM has 8.
The XL has 8 DIN in/outs and 4 more DIN outs.
XL has 22 RTP ports and XM has 12.
The OLED display with MIDI activity is better on the XL.
XL has 32 presets and XM has 4.

    There are some benefits.

Again, no realistic limit on a BomeBox with a smaller CPU inside it...I can use my powered USB hub with 13 entries.

Yes I still use my IConnectivity Midi routers but I have been forced to buy Bome Network products to do things that are not inside my recent MIOXL and MIOXM :
    - impossible to route a change preset midi PC to the Preset Selector Host Port, I must have a PC connected with something doing the routing trick... heavy. Seems that this feature has never been finished, even many as me were asking for it to change dynamically their midi routing.
    - Impossible to duplicate  a CC or PC message on several output channels, we can map but not duplicate and replicate. Not speaking here of using variables and scripts, simply replicating and/or duplicating.
    - Impossible to filter with more details amongst CC values, sometime we need so accept some CC on one channel, but not all. Not speaking here of using regexx filter rules suing variables, just exclusion/inclusion lists.
    - the editor in Auracle does not accept to copy full grids or full lines, and we must spend hours to recreate similar config clicking eactly same 200 grid points each time. Note that this is on Windows, I don't know on Mac. The ironic side of this is that when we click right button, there is a copy/past floating menu item but it triggers nothing....
  • A MioX? and a BomeBox are an unbeatable combination. I find I can literally do anything I need, and it’s reliable and easily maintained.
If I could only find a good way to manage and neaten all the cabling…

Ha Ha, yes lot of tubes in the beast. And you certainly have a PC or Mac somewhere.
  • I positively refuse to involve a pc or Mac in my instrument stack other than as a tool for programming.

All the logic for managing my Yamaha CP4, Yamaha YC61, Waldorf Blofeld, Strymon Mobius, BeatBuddy and TC Helicon Voicelive 3 Extreme is controlled by a Keith McMillen Softstep 2 foot pedal signaling the BomeBox, with my MioXM networking the whole lot. I use an iPad running Camelot Pro for songs and scenes.

So, not a computer in sight unless I’m changing the configuration of a piece of gear!!

  • Anyway that was not the problem here but the reduced number of usb midi connections to the host port.
    And...

That’s part of why I use the BomeBox.

It plays the part of the computer for the rig and for my MioXM. I can filter specific CC’s to ports and transmit duplicates of selected messages on other ports. I can change MioXM presets. All of this without a computer.

A combination of the MioX? technology with the programming flexibility of the Bome midi translator in a single box would be out of this world.

  • There is no single “perfect” midi networking product. The MioXM-XL series is amazing, but does need a bit of help for filtering, duplicating and further finessing midi messages.

I agree but iConnectivity should finish some easy parts in the Auracle editor for midi (copy/past) and on unfinished parts of their midi firmwares (as the PresetSelector nice idea). Increasing the number of usb devices supported by the host seems also something no very difficult to implement, they seem to be blocking more on the UI part than the firmware side...
  • Sorry for delay in responding on this. Was on vacation for a few weeks. We certainly don't have the perfect device, I'm not sure anyone could but I'm glad people still have great use for it. There are some things we are working on as you'll notice below that will assist in some of the issues you are having.

    - impossible to route a change preset midi PC to the Preset Selector Host Port, I must have a PC connected with something doing the routing trick... heavy. Seems that this feature has never been finished, even many as me were asking for it to change dynamically their midi routing.

    - We have a BETA app that will let you change presets with a PC or CC from any port on the mio X Series interfaces.

    - Impossible to duplicate  a CC or PC message on several output channels, we can map but not duplicate and replicate. Not speaking here of using variables and scripts, simply replicating and/or duplicating.
    - This is correct. We don't duplicate messages.

    - Impossible to filter with more details amongst CC values, sometime we need so accept some CC on one channel, but not all. Not speaking here of using regexx filter rules suing variables, just exclusion/inclusion lists.
    - There is another BETA app (CC Processor) that will have better control of CC filtering/passing/remapping.

    - This has been upgraded for the next release of Auracle X

The problem here is that I bought my MioXL and XM to get rid of any PC...

    Great, thanks. When ?
  • Next Auracle X has some upgrades but not the options I've mentioned above, yet. You'll likely see a bigger launched/upgrade going to Auracle X (v.2)
The BETA is almost fully tested through and you will likely see a new version of Auracle X in the next few weeks.
    @CSurieux
shoot me a message and I can get you connected up with the BETA softwares/firmwares.

Thank you will try to do it, but I am overflow with actual beta changing my settings (Fishman, Morningstar, etc. ).
  • Well, message posted on jan 20th, still no answer.
I hope that the next Auracle will include the current Preset name in the various popup windows titles (windows 10), actually if you don't remember it, the only way is to go to Preset popup, not very friendly.
  • We just released 1.9 a few days ago for Auracle X.
I'll request the name part to be added. It's a simple ask that could be added.

It's the most our engineers have decided to offer based on power and processing.
10 seems like quite a reasonable number of physical devices to support, but it's woefully inadequate when you have devices with multiple "virtual" connections over the same cable. I have two MIDI devices with four virtual USB connections each (nothing special, just a keyboard controller and a MIDI processor), and I'm sure you can see how the ten available slots start looking real cramped real fast. It'd be, uh, very useful to separate separate the cases and have more capacity for routing the virtual USB connections. As for processing power, it feels like a strange argument when there are 22 RTP ports which eg in my case are entirely unused.

Totally agree, and today MorningstarFx, a midi controller provider, published a new firmware with 4 virtual ports on its USB, and all my MC8 controllers disappeared from my MIOXL and MIOXM.
Am I condamned to not benefit of the improvements of other companies just because your engineers have decided ? Ask the sales people ...
It starts to be annoying a lot
