Wait, what??? "using the correct sysex commands RTP-MIDI ports can be changed to Initiator mode"
Re: Latest firmware release notes referring to something added in Oct 2017...
"3. Added ability for RTP-MIDI ports to initiate sessions. The default operation is for each port to be a Responder (same as before) but using the correct sysex commands RTP-MIDI ports can be changed to Initiator mode and can connect to Responders using Bonjour session names or IP address and port number."
Having just spent a good chunk of my week trying to debug dropped connections in a macos LAN trying to get icm4 and mio4 ethernet ports to talk to each other, I happened to notice the above statement in the release notes.
Are the "correct sysex commands" available anywhere? Am I correct in understanding that this turns the iCM4 and similar ilk into rtp-midi initiators, no longer requiring a host computer on the LAN and/or something like the "kiss-box?"
Are the connections stable/reliable?
After what I've gone through this week debugging rtp-midi, please, please, let this be easy an easy question to answer.
Kind regards,
